Superior-Lidgerwood-Mundy Corp. (SLM Corp.) is a small business that was established in 1947 in Superior, WI on the far western tip of Lake Superior. The company name comes from the merging of (3) major hoisting manufacturers, Superior Iron Works established in 1895, Lidgerwood Mfg. Co. established in 1873, and Mundy Hoisting Co. established in 1869. SLM's proximity to the Iron Range of Minnesota made it a major manufacturer of mining hoists and equipment for handling the iron ore. As well as a supplier of deck machinery to the Great Lake Shipping Fleet, who transported the ore to the steel mills for processing. About Lidgerwood Lidgerwood Mfg. Co. has long been known for its expertise in the design and manufacture of hoisting equipment, marine deck equipment, steering gears, and fin stabilizers. The Lidgerwood name is synonymous with cableway systems, blast furnace skip hoists, and mine hoists throughout the world.
