John Nurminen Foundation The John Nurminen Company was founded at Rauma in 1886. The John Nurminen Foundation was founded on the initiative of Messrs. John Nurminen Oy and entered in the Foundation register in 1992. The aim of John Nurminen Foundation is to maintain the cultural heritage and traditions of Finnish seafaring. The Foundation is focused on the history of seafaring, explorations and cartography. This is supported by the Foundation?s collection of art, antique maps and maritime antiques. The Foundation cooperates with international maritime museums, libraries and archives. The Foundation publishes books and publications, holds exhibitions and lends its material to national and international exhibitions as well as promotes scientific research. The John Nurminen Foundation is a member of ICOM (International Council of Museums) and the Hakluyt Society. Masters of Maritime Art - 400 years of maritime painting - exhibition has opened in Helsinki citymuseum Masters of Maritime Art - 400 Years of Maritime Painging between September 11 and December 7, 2003.
