Faster and Hassle-free Transhipment System - Fast Connect Timing is everything in today's shipping industry. The hallmark of a successful transhipment port is its ability to be speedy in connecting boxes from vessel to vessel. Our FastConnect transhipment system aims to offer shipping lines efficient transhipment connections in Singapore. In addition to increased operational efficiency, our customers are also offered rebates for enabling faster connections. PSA Singapore handles over 2,000 containers per vessel routinely, and turns vessels around in less than 12 hours. Advanced Technology To meet the exacting demands of the global market place, PSA is constantly innovating through automation and the use of intelligence systems to enhance our customers' competitiveness. One real advantage for customers using our container terminals in Singapore is the intensive use of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI): Electronic Data Communication Systems (PORTNET ) Computer Integrated Terminal Operations System (CITOS ) Financial EDI These integrated systems help shipping lines transact business conveniently and expeditiously within the port and to tranship their containers in the fastest possible way. Our customers are also able to monitor and manage their performance and cost more tightly with the financial and operational performance reports that they receive regularly from us through EDI. In our quest to provide our customers with the best service, PSA is committed to the application of state-of-the-art technology and management of complex and large-scale operations at the lowest possible cost. We engage in Operations Research to upgrade our IT systems constantly. For example, we have embarked on the development of CITOS 21 - 'next generation' terminal operations system with the latest technologies. Paperless/Flow Through Gate System Our paperless/ flow through gate system processes hauliers in the world's fastest time - 25 seconds. This is done through efficient, automated systems - our Container Number Recognition System and Auto-Paging. In 1999, our "Flow-Through" Container Gate System was conferred an Innovation Award at the 11th UK Seatrade Awards for its contribution to the port's excellence. Committed and Planned Investments for the Future Our plan for the future is centred around our commitment to greater efficiency and sharing the benefits of our productivity with our customers. PSA continues to invest substantially in more advanced container handling equipment which is designed to quickly turn around the biggest new generation container vessels. To meet the demands of the 21st century, a new generation mega container terminal is being built in stages over a few decades. Our new generation port - Pasir Panjang Terminal - has been in operation since October 1997. Equipped with the latest facilities and applying state-of-the-art technology, such as the use of remote-controlled bridge cranes, PPT aims to meet our customers' growth in the next century. The Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Goh Chok Tong, officially launched Pasir Panjang Terminal on 30 March 2000. PortCare Services In 1999, PSA introduced its PortCare Services, which consists of ReeferCare, ChemCare, BoxCare and ProCare. PortCare Services take care of customer's cargo and equipment every step of the way, from the moment they leave our customer's ships until they are loaded onto the next ship. From highly perishable reefer cargo to hazardous goods such as chemicals to odd-sized or out-of-gauge cargo, we are constantly expanding our array of services. Ideal One-stop Maritime Centre Essentially, PSA Singapore is a global one stop shipping centre offering a comprehensive range of marine services to support cargo operations. These include bunkering and slop reception, and marine services such as pilotage, tugs, water supply, ferries, sea garbage collection and gas free inspection. Container Security Initiative On 4 Jun 2002, the Ministry of Transport announced that Singapore will be the first pilot port in Asia under the US Container Security Initiative (CSI). PSA is working closely with the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and the Customs and Excise Department (CED) to dovetail the additional security measures, which include the use of X-rays machines into our operations. PSA welcomes the Government's decision to participate in the CSI. Harmonious and Co-operative Industrial Relations Our staff unions, namely the Singapore Port Workers Union and the Port Officers' Union, are keenly aware of their critical role in facilitating skills upgrading for staff and instilling productivity awareness, and the need for the flexible deployment of staff across job functions to meet business needs. Our success in union-management relations is a source of great pride to both our unions and PSA. Together, the union, management and staff work with one heart towards providing total customer support at the World's Port Of Call. Long-term Customer Focused Orientation In line with our commitment to better meet customers' changing needs in the ever competitive shipping industry, PSA has the "Key Customer Manager" scheme and "Chat Time" programmes. The "Key Customer Manager" scheme ensures regular dialogue sessions with the customers, helping us to better understand and attend to their operational and contractual needs. Programmes like "Chat Time" have also allowed PSA to build rapport with our customers and keep abreast of the latest developments in the shipping industry, and vice versa. PSA will continuously customize its services to meet customers' needs, through customized integrated service packages such as the Terminal Service Agreements or the Virtual Terminal Agreements which benchmarks our services against that at dedicated terminals. PSA SINGAPORE is the world's largest transhipment hub. As "The World's Port of Call", PSA Singapore provides shippers an excellent choice of 200 shipping lines with connections to 600 ports in 123 countries. This includes daily sailings to every major port in the world. PSA Singapore is the flagship terminal of PSA Corporation Ltd. It handles 18% of the world's total container transshipment throughput and 6% of global container throughput. In 2002, PSA Singapore handled 16.8 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of containers in Singapore. It was voted the 'Best Container Terminal Operator (Asia)' for the 14th time at the 2003 Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards and 'Container Terminal of the Year' at the Asia Logistics Awards 2003. Container Terminals PSA Singapore operates four container terminals at Tanjong Pagar, Keppel, Brani, and Pasir Panjang, with a total of 37 berths. They operate as one seamless and integrated facility. Noteworthy is Pasir Panjang Terminal, PSA's most advanced terminal, equipped with 15-metre deep berths with quay cranes able to reach across 18 rows of containers to accommodate the world's largest container vessels. The terminal's bridge crane system allows each operator to handle up to six cranes, as opposed to one previously. PORTNET , implemented in Singapore in 1989, is the world's first nation-wide e-commerce system that electronically links the entire shipping community. PORTNET currently has 7000 users and averages 70 million transactions annually. Portnet.com was set up in May 2000 to focus on helping customers increase their productivity and save costs through greater use of Information Technology and the Internet. Beyond its current services, Portnet.com aims to add value to its customers through the customisation of new solutions for shipping lines, ports and maritime communities. Regional Distribution Centres Our multi-purpose terminals comprising Pasir Panjang and Sembawang Wharves provide a host of port-related logistics solutions, ranging from inventory and warehouse management to regional distribution and supply chain management solutions. The Wharves handle over 10 million tonnes of break-bulk cargo and specialised cargo annually. Pasir Panjang Wharves is also the region's largest ro-ro hub, handling almost 400,000 transhipment vehicles annually. Located within the Free Trade Zone in the port is our Keppel Distripark the preferred distribution facility among shippers. Its close proximity allows cargo to be speedily delivered to and from the port. Marine Services PSA Marine, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PSA International, provides a complete suite of marine services to the maritime and shipping community. These include pilotage, port and terminal towage, ocean transportation, heavy lift services, and offshore support vessel and salvage services. As the leading provider of marine services, PSA Marine owns the largest and most powerful fleet of modern tugs in Asia. Adding Value Through Technology PSA Singapore is a leader in applying technology to make operations even more efficient, speedy and seamless for users. Its Computer Integrated Terminal Operations System (CITOS ), first developed in 1988, is an enterprise resource planning system that coordinates and integrates the entire port operation.
