The Port's cargo tonnage in Fiscal Year 2003 ended with a record volume of 5 million tons. The Canaveral Port Authority's mission is to develop trade, create jobs, and strengthen the economy of Brevard County and the Central Florida region. One way it fulfills that mission is through Foreign Trade Zone 136 at Port Canaveral, the world's first quadramodal zone, which connects cargo by sea, land, air and space. It is among the largest general purpose zones in the country with 4,160 acres. It serves as a strong economic development tool, making local businesses more competitive in the international marketplace.
