Send inquiries to rigging@worldnet.att.net NEW EQUIPMENT INNOVATIVE SYSTEMS THE R.I. TROLLEY RAIL REPAIRSYSTEM The practice of fusing rather than welding railtogether is not new. Modifying this practice to replace worn trolley railsin the air, however, is news, and Rigging International/RIMCO are pleased tointroduce our newest development. We have proven that our trolley rail fusing systemcuts rail repair by nearly half the time that is required for conventionalwelding by hand. This, of course, translates to reduced out-of-servicecrane time and smoother operations for the terminal operator. The RI/RIMCO rail fusing system offers severalbenefits: All work can be done "in the air" A safe, bolt-on bracket system allows our crews end-to-end rail access Our system minimizes rail replacement and expedites new-to-old rail alignment, assuring critical predetermined measurements to +/- one-eighth of an inch Old rail can be removed in lengths up to 110 ft. An innovative installation technique allows in-place welding on the boom and girder. Fusing rail together Fused rail ready for smooth grinding RI's modified profile rail grinder provides a smooth transition Trolley rail ground smooth We would welcome the opportunity to discuss our system in greater detail and tooffer a demonstration at our Carson, California facility. Send inquiries to rigging@worldnet.att.net Project Profile NEW EQUIPMENT THE R.I. JACKING TROLLEY Rigging International is pleased to introduce anew Turbine and Generator Installation System which was designed and engineeredby our in-house team of heavy lift professionals and provides one of the safestmethods of installation in the industry. Mountedon hydraulically driven trucks, the frame of this system is almost entirelyself-erecting. Its positive overhead lifting system consists of hydraulicchain jacks, which are built to the same exacting standards and specificationsas those used in our nuclear plant work. Having sufficient lift height to allow for theleapfrogging of the turbine over the generator when the generator must be setfirst, our system solves the problems of out-of-sequence delivery of turbinesand generators. By using the same hydraulic platform trailerequipment that transports the turbines and generators, the RI lifting system canbe quickly relocated - in a fully-assembled condition - from unit to unit withinthe plant. In the case where all of the generators in a multiple-unitplant have to be set prior to arrival of the turbines, this relocationflexibility offers the benefit of continuous work flow regardless of deliverysequence. Cal --FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-- RIGGING INTERNATIONAL LOWERS THE BOOM AT THE PORT OF OAKLAND December 17, 2003 container crane and Bay Area port history were unmade today with the dismantling of one of the maritime industry s oldest container cranes, by Rigging International (RI) of Alameda, California. Work to disassemble this historic machine began by removing a major structural component, the boom. The enclosed photographs depict this operation in which RI utilizes the Vortex crane barge, also Alameda-based, to make this critical lift. Alamedabased Rigging International is under contract to the Port of Oakland to disassemble this crane and another, located at Ben Nutter Terminal. The first generation container crane, Serial Number 241, was manufactured by Pacific Coast Engineering Company (PACECO) in the mid-1960 s. In the early days of containerization, cranes of this type revolutionized the cargo handling industry. This crane and its sisters were considered the market makers. They changed the way cargo was shipped, loaded and unloaded, and transported to the end users. The container crane had a dramatic effect on waterfront work practices as well. Typically referred to as an A frame, this machine has been dwarfed in size and capacity by state-of- the-art Super PANAMAX cranes, designed to work container vessels capable of carrying 8,000 twenty-foot containers. The height and width of these ships, along with their container loads have made the first generation A frames a thing of the past. Over its nearly forty-year history, PACECO 241 has been operated by Sea-Land, CSX, Maersk, and Horizon Shipping. Its service life exceeds fifty thousand operating hours and hundreds of thousands of container moves. It remained in use well into 2003. As part of PACECO 241 s life story, the Alameda connection once again comes into play. The original founders of Rigging International, the contractor hired by the Port of Oakland to dismantle the crane, also erected it in the late 1960 s. At that time, PACECO had its fabrication facility on the Alameda Estuary, so the roots and working history of this have always been local. Please visit our website at www.riggingintnernational.com. 1 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 30, 2003 RIGGING INTERNATIONAL MOVES FOURTH STREET BRIDGE Another San Francisco bridge job by The Guys who Fixed the Bridge after the Loma Prieta earthquake San Francisco s 250-ton Fourth Street Bridge was moved today by Alameda-based Rigging International (RI). In a precisely-planned and executed operation, the bridge was raised and removed from its Mission Creek location and transported over land to a site where it will undergo major seismic retrofit and refurbishment. To prepare for the move, RI pre-positioned a barge under the bridge. On this barge were two sets of RI s modular hydraulic platform trailers and lifting beams which were attached to the underside of the bridge. With the tide rising through the morning and early afternoon, the barge, trailers, lifting beams, and bridge were raised to a height which allowed RI to haul the trailer-mounted bridge off the barge and onto the Fourth Street roadway. On Tuesday evening, July 1, 2003, the Fourth Street Bridge will be transported to a temporary site near Pier 60 where it will be refurbished and seismically retrofitted. This 2 work is scheduled for completion in approximately one year, and RI will then reposition the bridge at its original Mission Creek location. RI worked under contract to Mitchell Engineering of San Francisco. RI, the world-wide heavy lift rigging and heavy transport specialty contractor is best known locally for the repair of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge following the Loma Prieta Earthquake, an enormous task which was completed in less than thirty days. RI is the recent recipient of the Associated General Contractors of California coveted Safety Award for 2003. The company has also received the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association s Crane and Rigging Group Safety Award for 2002 and 2003. RI is also an ISO 9002-certified company. For additional information on RI, contact Vic Rollandi, Rigging International, at (510) 865-2400. Photos are available upon request. Box 1285 1210 Marina Village Parkway Alameda, CA 94501 USA -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- RIGGING INTERNATIONAL RECEIVES ISO9002 CERTIFICATION MARCH 13, 2003 Rigging International (RI), based in Alameda, California is pleased to announce that it was recently granted ISO9002 certification via The Road Haulage Association s (RHA) United States Affiliate, European Quality Assurance. This certification covers the provision of rigging, transportation, erection, and maintenance services. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from more than 130 countries. Based on reference to ISO standards, registered companies develop and implement a documented quality system intended to maintain consistent quality practices within the organization. This major accomplishment is the result of many months and countless manhours of rigorous, top-down organizational review, validation, and re-validation. ISO focuses upon achieving continuity, continuous work process improvement, and a goal of sustained excellence. We are proud and gratified to have reached this milestone in our 30+ year history, says Victor Rollandi, Chairman and Co-owner of Rigging International. In many cases, large multinational corporations will only consider doing business with other ISO-certified companies, so this is a significant means of differentiating ourselves from other competitors, adds Neil Dodds, President and other RI Co-owner. Since its founding in 1969, RI has been involved in some of the world s most complex heavy lift rigging and transportation projects. In the U.S., RI is probably best known for its work at dock facilities installing, refurbishing, and relocating and maintaining dockside container cranes for shipping lines and port authorities. In the power industry, RI s major accomplishments include the replacement of steam generators at several nuclear power plants across the United States projects that demand critical engineering design to meet high standards of safety. Closer to RI s home in California, the company recently completed the erection of two switchyards for the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
