Port location: Latitude 10 degrees 15' south, Longitude 40 degrees 12' east, 400km due south of Dar es Salaam. Admiralty charts: 684 Admiralty pilot: 3 UNCTAD Locode: TZ MYW Radio frequency information: VHF channel 12 Port facilities: Petroleum and General Cargo. Pilotage: Compulsory, ships from the north and south pick up a pilot in Mikindani Bay, approximately 0.8km north of Shangani Shoal Bouy. No night berthing. Approach: Depth at entrance 20m. Accommodation: 380.4m quay with 9.75m depth alongside at mean low water spring tide. The port is well sheltered and has an area of over 10.3km2. Tankers now discharge oil whilst alongside. Storage: Three transit sheds with a total floor area of 7450m2 and open stacking grounds of 4646m2. Tanker terminals: One berth, length 175.2m, 9.75 maximum draft. Cranes: Mobile cranes, forklift and platfrom trucks available. Airport: Local airport 11.2km from port. Provisions and water: Fresh water of good quality (though not recommended for use in boilers) is available in moderate quanities at the main quay.
