Therefore, MAN B&W Diesel has over the past decade, developed a comprehensive Computerized Engine Application System, including an integral speed and power prediction program for ships and the corresponding main engine selection program. The system enables specifications of main engine solutions for specific ship projects to be processed on the basis of both technical and economical input. The system facilitates calculations of such parameters as fuel oil consumption, utilization of exhaust gas heat, maintenance costs, etc., involved in projects engineering, and allows an economic comparison to be made of the various alternatives.
