Page 1 of 1 [Back to companies list]
The Port of Rosyth opened for business in 1998 and offers tremendous potential for businesses that require a riverside location for the import of raw materials and the export of finished goods. Rosyth is located eight miles from Edinburgh and 40 miles from Glasgow on the north shore of the Firth of Forth immediately west of the Forth Road and Rail Bridges. The Port of Rosyth offers deep water river berths with up to 540 metres frontage and a minimum depth of 8.3 metres. The Port lies on the north bank of the River Forth upstream of the Forth road and rail bridges, well sited for the main North Sea shipping lanes and oil and gas fields. Rosyth enjoys excellent road links with the Scottish and UK motorway network to the main centres of population; it is also rail linked, for customers who prefer or require an alternative to road distribution. Rosyth has quickly established itself as a vigorous facility. New equipment is in place which meets the highest standards of plant and industrial safety and development, and has introduced systems designed to achieve fast and economic ship turnarounds. Cargo discharge or loading is systematically planned, with control and scheduling information processed automatically by an integrated communication system, thus keeping paperwork to a minimum. A number of businesses have set up in the port, including a pallet manufacturing plant and an offshore support facility. In addition, Scottish Enterprise have announced that Rosyth is the preferred port for the development of a ferry link from Scotland to Central Europe. Superfast Ferries have been chosen as the preferred operator for the new route which is envisaged to commence in 2002. The Port of Rosyth offers five berths up to 550 metres in length without restriction on beam and dredged to a maximum of 8.3 metres below Admiralty Chart Datum. Investment in port infrastructure has been significant, including high quality warehousing. Port Control and Pilotage To ensure safe movement of shipping Forth Ports apply a wide range of services, including a sophisticated vessel tracking system and pilotage and navigational aids, such as lighthouses, shore marks and buoys.
