Sudocean History The origin of Sudocean dates back to 1931 when Mr. Thilo Martens established "Agencia Maritima Thilo Martens" to act as agents for the "North German Lloyd" vessels. But it was only in 1954 when Mr. Thilo Martens and his partner, Mr. Herbert Huthoff, founded " Agencia Mar tima Sudocean SRL ", company which took over the entire business from "Agencia Maritima Thilo Martens". The first liner owner to be represented by this agency was the Chilean company "Haverbeck and Skalweit S.A." from Valparaiso, who maintained a regular liner service between Chile and Peru to Argentina and Brazil. In 1961, Sudocean was appointed exclusive agent in Argentina for "China National Chartering Corporation" and a few years later for "China Ocean Shipping Company", both of Beijing. In 1965, when "Stolt Nielsen Inc." decided to open their own branch office in Buenos Aires, they nominated " Agencia Mar tima Sudocean SRL " their General Agents in Argentina, which gave the company the opportunity to become well familiarized with the liquid cargo trade. In 1978 "Mitsui O.S.K Lines Ltd" of Tokyo entrusted Sudocean their General Agency for Argentina.
