Gearbulk is an international shipping company providing high quality transportation and logistics services for various industrial sectors. The company is a leading carrier of unitised forest products and non-ferrous metals, and operates the world's largest fleet of open hatch gantry craned (OHGC) vessels, controlling approximately 35% of the world's OHGC vessel capacity. With two travelling gantry cranes serving perfectly box shaped holds, these vessels are specifically designed and equipped to transport unitised cargoes. We conduct our operations on a worldwide basis through a network of offices located in 16 countries and using over 500 agents. The fleet is primarily operated under contracts of affreightment covering periods of between one and ten years. Gearbulk is also involved in the transportation of conventional bulk cargoes, using both own and chartered handymax size vessels. In addition, we are involved in various shore-based and floating terminal operations. Gearbulk employs about 270 staff in representative and branch offices. Around 2,600 operational and seafaring staff are employed by our ship management company KGJS. The company operates a fleet of over 60 vessels, consisting primarily of open hatch gantry craned (OHGC) vessels. Gearbulk owns or has interests in 9 primary terminals, which are used to handle, store and distribute cargoes. Gearbulk vessels made around 3,600 port calls in over 70 countries across five continents in 2001. The company transported 12.4 million tons of cargo, generating revenues of $525 million. About 75% of cargo transported was comprised of unitised products, with the remainder accounted for by bulk cargoes. About 75% of cargo transported was under contracts of affreightment for a variety of unitised and bulk cargoes, generating approximately 67% of total freight revenues. Box shaped holds - allowing full access to all parts of the hold with no deck overhang. Smooth surfaces ensure that the risk of cargo damage is reduced. Double hulls are universally accepted by the shipping industry as the safest means of transportation, minimising the risk to the environment. Travelling gantry cranes - with the crane driver located on top of the gantry crane, allowing an unrestricted view of the box shaped hold below. This allows the loading and unloading of sensitive commodities in a safe and efficient manner. Dehumidification - it is important to protect sensitive cargoes from changes in temperature and humidity levels that occur between different climatic zones. Our vessels are equipped with dehumidification plants, alllowing us to control temperature and humidity levels in the cargo holds, thereby minimising the risk of cargo damage. The Gearbulk fleet primarily consists of open hatch gantry craned (OHGC) vessels. OHGC vessels are designed to transport unitised cargoes, such as forest products and non-ferrous metals. Our OHGC vessels are interchangeable and we can therefore adapt quickly and effectively to customer requirements. We have specialised cargo handling equipment onboard all Gearbulk vessels, as well as in our main ports of call. Gearbulk AG - Hong Kong
