Our Overnight Sleepover Program has been severely limited due to new fire regulations, which limit us to six sleepovers (6) per year and our quota for the year 2003 has been met. If your group wishes to sign up for next year (2004) fill out our sleepover reservation form and send it in. Do not send in a deposit. We plan on holding a drawing sometime in December 2003 and will pick six (6) groups. We will contact those winning groups and set up the dates. Please call us at 201-342-3268 for more information. We now are offering an "Evening on the Ling" in which we do all the things done on the "Overnight Sleepover Program" except the sleepover. The program starts at 6:00 PM and ends about 11:00 PM when everyone goes home. The introductory cost is $10.00 per person with a minimum of 20 required and a maximum of 35. We have had a few of these this year and they all have gone extremely well. If you would like to spend an "Evening on the Ling" please call at 201-342-3268 for dates available this year. About the USS Ling Overnight Program Who may participate? How much does it cost? What dates are available? What paperwork do you require? Confined Spaces Is there a schedule of activities? Rules Plan Accordingly -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who may participate? Currently, the Overnight Program is open to scouting groups (Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts) of age levels 6 and up, as well as school or other organized groups which meet our insurance coverage requirements (see section below on required paperwork). The minimum group size is 20 people. If your group can not meet this minimum, you may still participate, however your cost will be based on a 20 person group. The maximum group size we can safely accommodate is 30. We require a minimum adult/child ratio of 1:5. If your group has a stricter requirement for overnight activities (e.g. Cub Scouts, 1:1), you must adhere to your organization's rules. If you do not have enough adult supervision, your group will not be allowed to board the USS LING. We do not combine groups, your time on board will not be shared with another group. Overnight Program's are limited to Friday and Saturday evenings. It is advisable to enlist extra adults, to help spread responsibilities and supervision duties. We are sorry, but we cannot permit siblings of group members to attend this overnight encampment at this time. Back to Top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How much does it cost? The cost of participating in this program is $25.00 per person for a one-night stay on either Friday or Saturday night. Availability of additional nights may be added at the discretion of New Jersey Naval Museum. Participants in the program will: 1) Receive overnight accommodations on board the World War II submarine USS LING, sleeping in bunks in the original crew's quarters, or the officers quarters. 2) Have the rare opportunity to visit areas of the submarine normally off limits to our daily visitors, our knowledgeable staff can provide inside information on the many different systems and pieces of equipment aboard the submarine. 3) View a video documentary about submarines of World War II. DEPOSITS A $100.00 non-refundable deposit is required, which will be applied towards the total fee for your group. No date will be confirmed without a deposit. The balance is due when you arrive for your stay (cash or check only sorry, no credit cards are accepted). Deposits may be mailed or dropped off at the museum Make Checks Payable to: Submarine Memorial Association Mail Deposit along with the filled out Sleepover Registration Form located here to: Submarine Memorial Association 78 River Street Hackensack, NJ 07601 NOTE: When sending checks, be sure to note your group's name and visit date on it to ensure proper credit. I NEED TO CANCEL, CAN I GET A REFUND? If you need to cancel your reservation, we can only issue a refund on your deposit under the following conditions: 1) You reschedule your overnight visit and notify us at least 30 days in advance, we will apply your deposit to the new date. 2) In the even of inclement weather or other condition that requires closure of the Museum. You will be given the choice of rescheduling your visit or receiving a refund of your deposit. The Museum will make every effort to contact your group with as much advance notice as possible to allow for rescheduling. Neither the New Jersey Naval Museum nor the Submarine Memorial Association will be held responsible for any inconveniences or consequences arising from the cancellation of a group visit. Back to Top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What dates are available? You can check the availability of dates by the following methods. 1) Stop by the Museum! We'll be more than glad to answer any questions you have, take you down on the submarine to take a look around. 2) Call the Museum at (201) 342-3268 and inquire as to date availability. NOTE: You may receive the answering machine, please leave your full name, group name and a phone number so we may return your call and reserve your date. Back to Top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What paperwork do you require? For your overnight stay, there are two important documents that we require you to send us copies of: 1) Your group's Tour Permit (or other such document indicating that the trip is sanctioned by your organization) 2) A Certificate of Insurance indicating a minimum of one million dollars for Bodily Injury and Property Damage, and listing the Submarine Memorial Association and The Record as an additional insured (e.g. it may simply read "certificate holder is an additional insured") Copies of these documents must arrive at least fourteen days in advance of your planned stay. Don't wait until the last minute to arrange to get these documents. Your group will not be allowed to board the boat without these documents. Important!: All adults traveling with the group must be listed on the Tour Permit as designated drivers. Upon arrival, adult members of the group will be required to sign a Hold Harmless agreement provided by the Submarine Memorial Association. Special Note to Boy Scouts of America: Many Boy Scout Councils routinely file a blanket Certificate of Insurance with us to cover groups from that particular council for a one year period -- call us to see if your council has done so, in which case you will not need to file a new certificate. Back to Top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confined Spaces Submarines by their nature are small and cramped on the inside. If you feel that you or any member of your group might have a problem staying onboard the USS Ling, we suggest that before you make a reservation you attempt the following: 1) Call or stop by the Museum during normal tour hours and request a orientation tour to see firsthand the space available onboard. 2) Take a virtual tour* of the USS Ling. There are photos and descriptions of each compartment to give you a general idea of the space available. * Flash player 5 required Back to Top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Activities Schedule As there are many activities you can participate in onboard the USS Ling but a limited time schedule, we suggest you follow a Plan of the Day to schedule your activities.
