In the field of ocean towage, SmitWijs brings to its clients over 250 years of experience and expertise. Global Towing Aliance, for which SmitWijs acts as commercial and operational manager, offers for worldwide towage six high horsepower tugs ranging from 170 to 200 tons bollard pull. All units have a large bunker capacity, enabling them to be at sea for at least 40 days non-stop, and main engines run on Intermediate Fuel Oil. The tugs are ideally suited for towing large objects such as drilling platforms, offshore structures, launch and construction barges, Floating Production Storage Offtake Units, drydocks and ships of every kind and design. SmitWijs was formed in 1991 as an ocean towing joint venture of the well known Dutch maritime groups SMIT and Wijsmuller (now Svitzer Wijsmuller). In 1997 the company established a tug pool with Pentow Marine (now SMIT Pentow Marine) of Cape Town. In 1999 China Ocean Engineering Services/Shanghai Salvage also joined the pool, followed by First Fleet/Guangzhou Salvage in the year 2000. The pool operates under the name Global Towing Alliance and SmitWijs acts as its commercial and operational manager. SmitWijs Towage C.V. - Rotterdam (Netherlands)
