The founder of the company Cpt. Gerhard Rohden, borne in 1936 in Emden, Ostfriesland, is coming from a family with a long tradition in shipping. His education started in 1950 going through all the stages of educations and passing his master's exams in 1958. February 1960 Cpt. Rohden bought the Christa Thilemann, which he renamed into MV "SEEADLER II". This vessel was sold only after 8 months of trading. Thereafter he bought the vessel Gretchen with the size of 320 ts which Cpt. Rohden renamed to MV "CASTOR" which he sold in 1965. After selling his first MV "CASTOR" Cpt. Rohden bought the Moni which he again called MV "CASTOR". This ship was sold again in 1969 and was replaced by the Newbuilding MV "CASTOR" which was built at the shipyard Martin Jansen in Leer, Ostfriesland. Cpt. Rohden sailed this vessel till 1974 when he lengthened and widened the vessel at the Elsflether Werft in Elsfleth, Germany. In 1974 he also stopped sailing as a master himself and started to build two other sea-river going vessels, the MV "CARINA" and the MV "CAPELLA". Both vessels where designed and constructed by Cpt. Rohden for newsprint paper and steel transport; the MV "CAPELLA" was actually equiped with a lift enabling loading and discharging operations under advers weather conditions. The company was founded in 1959 by Cpt. Gerhard Rohden with the purchase of a second-hand sea-river-going coaster which was renamed by Cpt. Rohden to MV "SEEADLER II". With this vessel a long tradition of sea-river going coasters being purchased or designed on basis of the ideas of Cpt. Rohden started. Presently the forth & fifth generation of sea-river-going coasters, the so called Rhyn- and Elbe-Types are being managed and run by Cpt. Rohden. Further to this other types of vessels have been designed and built, many of them still trading with the company others being sold and running successfully for other shipowner companies. The present fleet of more than 20 ships is formed by sea-river going vessels ranging from the size of 2.500 ts dwt to 3.500 ts dwat and by container carriers ranging from 2.500 ts dwat upto about 12.000 ts dwt respectively 200 TEU upto 1.000 TEU. Next to the shipmanagement a broking company was founded in 1990 taking care of the chartering of the vessels under management. Closely connected to the company is the financial investment company CASTOR Kapital, which is handling the shareholder investment capital of the vessels managed by the company. During the years close business relations to bankers, ship yards, Charterers, insurance companies and broking companies have been built up and can be relyed on todays changing markets.
