PESCA CHILE is a fishing company owned by GRUPO PESCANOVA, a Spanish corporation that for more than four decades has been pioneer in the frozen fish industry development. PESCANOVA operates one of the greatest fishing fleets in the world, with an important presence in the main international markets. PESCA CHILE was born in 1993 with the goal of exploiting and developing high-level Chilean fishing products to the rest of the world. That same year, the Company starts its operations with its first fishing vessel called Betanzos. Since the nineties, the Company initiates an explosive growth and development process through which it acquires new ships, triples both its fishing and processing capacities, increases its farming centers and broadens its reach to international markets, thus becoming one of the most important fishing companies in the continent. Presently, PESCA CHILE exports more that 20 marine species in 200 different presentations to thirty-eight countries in the world. The company counts with a fleet of fourteen fishing vessels, the greatest fleet operating in Chilean waters, four processing plants along the country certified under the ISO 9001 standards and more than twenty-five salmon farming centers, being furthermore, one the most significant labor sources in Chile's southern zone. Besides the above, Pesca Chile has the greatest facilities for the extraction, processing, storage and transportation of its products. This makes it a leader in the Chilean fishing industry destined to human consumption, with more than 30 thousand tons per year of processed products and a wide variety of resources in fish and seafood, both fresh and frozen. MAIN MILESTONES OF PESCA CHILE S.A. 1983 PESCA CHILE initiates its operations with the goal of exploiting and developing high quality fishing resources. Incorporates the first trawler ship called "Betanzos". PESCA CHILE reaches annual sales amounting to US$ 1.5 million. 1986 Incorporates in its fleet the a boulterer vessel "Pedrosa" . 1987 Incorporates in the fleet the boulterer vessels "Puerto Ballena" and "Chomapi". PESCA CHILE reaches annual sales exceeding US$ 8.0 million. 1988 Starts operating the Chacabuco Plant located in Region IX, Chile, with a 30 metric ton/day freezing capacity, or the professing of Australis Hake and Golden Kingship The boulterer/freezing vessels Tuamapu and Puyuguapi are incorporated to the fleet. 1989 Purchase of the Punta Arenas plant, located in Region XII, for Chilean Sea bass processing. 1990 Initiates its operations in the Chacabuco Plant, a fish by-product reduction factory producing fish meal and fish oil. PESCA CHILE initiates the Coho Salmon and Salmon Trout farming, with two farming centers at Region XI. PESCA CHILE reaches annual sales amounting more that US$ 26 million. 1991 Trawling/freezing vessels "Boston Blenheim" and "Boston Beverly" are incorporated to the fleet. The Punta Arenas Plant is adapted for frozen fish and seafood processing. 1992 The boultering vessel "Faro de Hercules" is incorporated to the fleet. PESCA CHILE reaches annual sales amounting to more than US$ 30 million. 1993 The boutering vessel "Magallanes III" and the l trawling/freezing ship "Cote Saint Jacques" are incorporated to the fleet. 1995 Freezing capacity at Planta Chacabuco duplicates, reaching 60 metric tons per day capacity of processed product. Three new farming centers of Coho Salmon and Trout are incorporated in Region XI. In this way, the company totalizes 5 farming centers. The Punta Arenas Plant is enlarged and refurbished. PESCA CHILE reaches annual sales amounting to more than US$ 50 million. 1996 The Chacabuco Plant obtains from SERNAPESCA the HACCP. The boultering vessel "Tierra del Fuego" is incorporated to the fleet. A cold-storing plant with 800 metric tons capacity is built at the Punta Arenas Plant 1997 The Chacabuco Plant triplicates its freezing capacity reaching 110 metric tons per day. Its cleaning and freezing lines are automated and production of Coho Salmon with an added value is initiated, inaugurating three lines of vacuum packaging. Thee new additional salmon farming centers are inaugurated in Region XI. PESCANOVA open commercial offices in Miami, USA, and PESCA CHILE becomes its main supplier for Salmon, Chilean Sea bass, Golden Kingklip, Southern Stone Crab, Orange Roughy and Australis Hake. PESCA CHILE certifies all its Punta Arenas plant installations and process for initiating export of its products to the European Union and the United States. Cryogenic freezing for processed seafood in incorporated at the Punta Arenas plant. 1998 Production of fresh Salar Salmon and new processing lines for salmon and trout are initiated at the Chacabuco plant. PESCA CHILE initiates operations at Pesquera Puerto Montt for contracting the processing of its freezing-vessels fishing production and the purchases of Australis Hake in Region X. PESCA CHILE reaches annual sales amounting over US$ 82 million. 1999 The trawler vessel "Betanzos" is transformed with the addition of liquid ice and filleting machines. 2000 The boultering vessel "Polar Pesca I" is incorporated to the fleet. Liquid ice machines are installed on the vessels "Cote Saint Jacques", "Boston Beverly" and "Boston Blenheim". Six new salmon farming centers are inaugurated in Region XI, among them, an exclusive farming center for reproducers, amounting to a total of 13 centers in the region. PESCA CHILE initiates salmon farming in Region XII. Pesquera Puerto Montt is incorporated as a sister company, widening its range of contract-processed products, with a capacity of 40 metric tons of fresh product per day and 18 metric tons of frozen product per day. 2001 Nova Austral S.A., a company owned by GRUPO PESCANOVA starts its operations in Region XII with its plant in Porvenir, with a capacity of 15 metric tons per day, destined for the processing of different fish and seafood species. PESCA CHILE opens its offices in Tokyo, Japan. The vessel "Boston Blenheim" is transformed. Liquid ice machines are installed in vessels "Tuamapu" and "Puyuguapi". Three new salmon farming centers are opened in Tierra del Fuego, becoming this the southernmost farming center in the world. 2002 Productive processes and installations lay outs of the Chacabuco Plant are perfected. The Chinconal Pisciculture in Region XI starts operations. The two PESCA CHILE plants, Pesquera Puerto Montt and Nova Austral S.A. obtain certifications under the ISO 9001 quality standard. PESCA CHILE associates with the shipping company Naviera Porvenir S.A. for food transportation to its different salmon and trout farming centers. Nova Austral quadruples its size and initiates salmon processing. The trawler vessel "Saint Pierre" is incorporated to the shipping fleet. Construction of the vessel destined to live salmon transportation is initiated. Vessels "Tierra del Fuego" and "Magallanes III" factories and installations are transformed. Six new salmon farming centers are acquired in Region XII, reaching with this a total of 25 farming centers between Regions XI and XII. Nova Austral enlarges its 80 metric tons per day capacity of finished product. The first salmon harvest in Tierra del Fuego, Region XII is performed. PESCA CHILE reaches annual sales over 103 million dollars.
