Ropners flourished as a family run shipowning business, despite losing over 50% of its fleet in the first World War and emerging from the second World War with only four vessels. In 1948, the shares in the Ropner Shipping Company and the Pool Shipping Company were acquired by a new holding company, Ropner Holdings Ltd. which was quoted on the stock exchange as a public company. The company continued as ship owners and managers for nearly 50 years, until in 1997, it was taken over by Jacobs Holdings Plc. The focus thereafter was more on ship management than direct ownership. In October 2000 the head office was re-located to Dartford in Kent as part of an overall rationalisation of the Bidcorp Shipping Division, of which Ropner Ship Management is now an integral unit. The Company currently undertakes full management of the Dart Line fleet of Ro Ro vessels and provides various consultancy services to third parties. Copies of the hardback edition of The Ropner Story (ISBN 0091638100) are available along with further information from Mr Chris Bravery.
