This is the main port of Parana state, in the south of Brazil. The port of Paranagua is administrated by a public entity APPA- Administracao dos Portos de Paranagua e Antonina. The port consists of 2.606 mts continuous quayage with depth of 28 ft to 39 ft. Main products handled: Exportation: Coffe, cotton, frozen meat and poultry, grain and grain by-products, timbers, tiles and vegetable oils. Importation: Fertilisers, chemicals, papers, wood pulp, manufactured goods, heavy machinery, etc. This port also acts as a "free-port" for the neighbouring country of PARAGUAY, and in that respect, serves as outlet for the main Paraguayan exports (soyabean and timber) , having a Paraguayan bonded storage for cereals linked directly to Paranagua?s export corridor. The port works around the clock being: 07:00 x 13:00 / 13:00 x 19:00 normal day shift 19:00 x 01:00 / 01:00 x 07:00 normal night shift, except on sundays/hollidays. Containers traffic are increasing considerably and sames are discharged by ship?s gear to traillers and taken to a private yard named TCP (Terminal de Containers de Paranagua). The Port Administration has just handled over the container yard to TCP in order to develop and attend the increase of containers in the port accordingly. The new private operator (TCP) will have to conclude all improvements demanded by port authority in a short period of time and it is expected to become the largest container terminal in South America. Location Situated on the bay called PARANAGUA BAY. The main channel linking the access roads to the inner harbour (Galheta Channel) has a maximum draft of 41,00" (during righ tide), and the inner roads are normally considering as "safe anchorage". Geografic Coordenations: Latitude-South = 25 30,05' Longitude-West = 45 31,60' Navigational Conditions Water density varies bet 1010 to 1020, brackish water and the access to the port is thought the Galheta Channel that has been deepned down to 41ft whereas pilotage is mandatory Tidal range at this port is observed at about every 12 hours and does not effect loading/discharging procedures but for mooring / unmooring of vessels over 30 feet, it will necessary to be observed. Due new port regulations following conditions addopted by pilots for vessels entering/leaving the port for the timebeing: day time maneouvres: No restrictions for vessels drawing max 35ft. night time: No restrictions for vessels drawing max 33ft. High tide needed for vsls drawing max 35ft. For those places on the wharf (such as export corridor) where no fresh connection available then a water barge can be hired in case of need for water trucks are also available. Bunker supply All grades of IFO and MGO are available, supplied by PETROBRAS and delivered by barges. Ships repairs No drydock available. It is linked to the main pier where there is a private ship loader, through a towering uplifted conveyor belt, which streams from the main warehouse though above the port s old warehouses up to wharf num- bers 203-204. Area of activities: Receiving, Warehousing, Expediting products of vegetable origin. Terminal caracteristics: Horizon warehouse: 4.800 square meters Nominal capacity: 54.000 metric tons Cargo: Bulk cargo Reception system: 01 (one) road hopper for trucks equipped with an automatic scale with capacity of about 80 metric tons. The reception capacity is 2.000 metric tons per day. 01 (one) railway hopper equipped with 4 automatic scale with a capacity of 120 metric tons. The reception capacity is 8.000 metric tons per day. Expedition system: 01 (one) main conveyor belt with a nominal capacity of 1.500 metric tons per hour. 02 (two) elevators for 750 metric tons per hour each. 02 (two) port scales for 750 metric tons per hour each. 01 (one) ship loader for 1.000 metric tons per hour. Air draft 16,45 meters. Berth conditions: Draft: 35 feet (10,67 mts) without fenders. Draft: 37 feet (11.28 mts) with 5 meter wide fenders holding vessel off quay. Length for berthing vessels 190 meters. Note: Vessels with more than 190 meters can berth proving adjacent berth no occu- pied and with prior authorization from port Authority. Working periods: Terminal will work 24 hours running o clock including Saturdays, Sundays and Holi- days, but always on their own descreption. Special comments: Insurance: The terminal has is covered by first class insurance companies. Safety area: Furnished with hydrants and extinguishers. Administrative office block in masonry with 286 spuare meters. Power supply: 1,500 kva installed in two transmitting points to Terminal and Quay.
