Dredging Many dredgers, merchant and passenger ships are plying the world s sea lanes equipped with Hycom hydraulic systems and components. Ocean liners and ferry-boats; dredgers from split barges to hopper dredgers; merchant ships from bulk carriers to containers ships. The application of hydraulic systems at sea places heavy demands on reliability and durability. Hycom hydraulic cylinders are renowned: the piston rods are made of stainless steel or are protected against corrosion by a layer of nickel-chromium or a ceramic layer that is marketed under the brand name Ceracom. Many of Hycom s hydraulic systems are built under the supervision of reputable classification societies such as Bureau Veritas, Lloyd s Register of Shipping, Det Norske Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd and ABS. Many merchant ships are equipped with Hycom hydraulic systems such as controls for watertight doors, bow doors, hatch covers, bow thrusters, cranes and movable decks, often fitted with electronic operating systems. Many specific hydraulic applications on board these ships have been supplied by Hycom, such as swell compensators, winch drives, spud hoist systems for cutter dredgers. Hycom has developed and supplied special valve blocks for synchronizing the opening of ship s bottom doors. Hycom has brought the unique 3-S system for split barges onto the market.
