The world-renowned repair to fractured or broken cast iron frames earthmoving equipment, machine tools - in fact all capital equipment manufactured in cast iron. The time proved repair that does not cost the earth - available throughout the world. METALOCK is a method for the repair of machinery, both iron and steel, which has been fractured or cracked. The repair consists of peening into prepared apertures at set centres, layers of Metalock keys. The apertures are prepared at right angles to the fracture and, like the Metalock keys, take the form of circular sections joined by parallel sections. Holes are next drilled along the line of fracture and these are tapped and filled with studs. This part of the work is known as Metalace and is carried out progressively, one stud biting into its predecessor. In areas of great stress concentration the Masterlock is used. This is a block of high tensile steel, usually rectangular in shape with its edges serrated in the form of half round holes. Repair of a crack on a cylinder of a compressor Like the Metalockkey, the Masterlock is inserted into a prepared aperture and, when in position, the surface is usually flush with that of the parent metal. Half holes in the parent metal match up with those in the Masterlock and the resultant full holes are filled with layers of short dowels, which are peened into position. Some of the advantages of the Metalock process are that it dampens and absorbs compression stresser; provides a good "expansion joint" for such castings as cylinder liners, diesel heads, or any vessel subject to therminal stresses; distributes the tensional load away from fatigue points and maintains relieved conditions of inherent internal stesser where repture occurred. Hydraulic pressures of up to 10.000 lbs, p.s.i. are coped with by the repair. It also maintains alignment and original surfaces, sincelack of heat produces no distorsion, and the vast majority, of repairs can be done in situ, with consequent saving in time with little or no dismantling.
