Berger is one of the oldest names in the paints and coatings industry. Our history can be traced back to 1760 when a young German chemist founded a business in England, making dyes and pigments. His anglicised name was Lewis Berger, and the original company, Lewis Berger and Sons Ltd, grew rapidly with a strong reputation for innovation and enterpreneurship. Lewis Berger's first great success began when he perfected a new process for making Prussian Blue, a deep blue dye. This was a highly valuable pigment at that time as it was widely used for the making of the dark blue uniforms that characterised the many European armies of the nineteenth century. From the production of dyes and pigments, it was a natural progression for the company to start producing paints and coatings. Today, this is the core business of Berger. The Berger Group grew rapidly with the establishment of branches in many parts of the world. It also merged with other leading paints and coating companies, such as John Hall and Sons, Jenson & Nicholson, and British Paints, building on their expertise, reputation and goodwill. The Berger Group has been active in Singapore and Hong Kong since the 1970's. It has expanded into many other Far East countries. Since 1994, the Berger Paints companiew in East Asia, the Middle East, Malta and the Caribbean have been regrouped under the holding company Berger International Limited, which is based in Singapore. Berger International Limited is listed on the main board of the Singapore Exchange. Our growth and expansion plan continues with new operations being added in China, Malaysia and Myanmar. In Singapore, Berger has diversified into construction, specialising in upgrading work for public housing. Berger Paints Singapore Pte Ltd
